Background

The people of Lansdown have long cherished the open ground between Richmond Road and Richmond Lane. In December 1999, St. Stephen's Millennium Green Trust bought the western end of the site and the future became secure.

The purchase was made possible by contributions from the Millennium Commission, local businesses and residents. A Millennium Green has been created to serve the people of Bath. The rest of the site has been leased to St. Stephen's Allotments for 50 years.

Keeping this project going costs money. The Millennium Green Trust is responsible for the maintenance of the Green.

Over the past fourteen years of the Trust's existence the Local Authority has supported the Green's upkeep with small grants. The main burden of maintenance is, however, carried out by the community.

You can support the Millennium Green by joining our the 'Fund A Day' Scheme where your donation can pay for one or more day's running costs to maintain the Green. Download a 'Fund A Day' form and then follow the instructions on form in order to make your donation.

You can also make a one-off donation to help towards the running costs of the Green. Download a donation form and follow the instructions on form in order to make your donation.

Amendment To The Trust Deed

The St. Stephen's Millennium GreenTrust's Governing Document dated 5th May 1999 had some drafting errors and the current Trustees, having taken legal advice, have decided to correct the document so as to avoid any future concerns. The primary amendment is to clarify the Locality in which the Inhabitants, for whom St Stephen"s Millennium Green exists, reside. The Locality is now defined as "primarily the areas within the City of Bath known as Lansdown, Camden, Fairfield Park and adjacent areas and also generally the City of Bath". A subsidiary change relates to the clarification of clause 4.2 with deals with buildings and structures on the Green. There is also the addition of Natural England in the definitions clause.

All changes have received the consent of Natural England  who have taken the place off the Countryside Agency, and the Millennium Commission. In due course the Trustees will be submitting the changes to the Charity Commission for them to issue a Scheme to approve the same.

The Trustees will be passing the necessary Resolution prior to the AGM on Nov 26th 2018.

Although the Trustees have been advised it is not necessary for them to seek the consent of stakeholders of the Charity to these changes it is appropriate for this information to be set out on the Charity's website. Any Inhabitant of the Locality is welcome to attend the AGM should any further explanation be required.

Events for 2018

The Summer Fair - August Bank Holiday Monday

Despite the poor weather over the August Bank Holiday weekend the Summer Fair held on the Bank Holiday Monday was a great success and a wonderful community event. The attendees enjoyed a variety of entertainments including a jazz band, a tombola, and the Punch and Judy which was equally popular with both children and adults. The plant and produce stall did a brisk trade and the cake and teas were as popular as ever. In total a profit of nearly £1500 was made and this amount will go towards the upkeep of the Millennium Green. Our thanks to all who attended and contributed so generously during the event.

Our thanks also to Brenda Bridgeman, Jackie Harris, and Richard Harris who put in so much effort into organising the event and also for organising the "Jazz on The Green" event that unfortunately had to be cancelled due to the bad weather.

Finally thanks also to all those who helped before, during and after the event.
